Memphis City Schools

I have always defended Memphis City Schools and tried to make impressions versus the depression they actually cause. Memphis City Schools is out of hand. Children are bringing guns into the school like it is candy. I remember bringing those children ages and going to school. My fellow classmates and I were afraid to bring our own Halloween candy to school. Now the school is not following any organization. Memphis City Schools are settling on the phrase “Enough to get by”. I was a student of Memphis City Schools and I know that doing these random metal detectors aren’t going to do much. Adding police officers aren’t going to do much because we will have less police in the street. We love our children and have to better their mind, not destroy them. They have no hope. Everyone tried to blame everyone for the shooting and deaths. There isn’t going to be much change. Why? There isn’t much punishment. It all changed when they took punishment from the school. Now, I am not making any racial comments but I grew up in an African American community and African Americans talk about how much they punish there children. I feel like it starts at home. In that case why do we have more predominantly African American school being affected and showcased on the news? There isn’t much punishment in the African American neighborhoods as they say. The White or Caucasian neighborhoods are always being attacked due to people saying they have more money but we live a society where anyone can become anything. You have to work for it. The African American parents have this thing that their children aren’t going to be “PUNKS” and that’s how they get in trouble and get caught up the streets. I love MCS and if they are going to try to put a hold on this violence then they will need the parents help. All of them! I know plenty of parents that have came up to MCS and tried to argue with the faculty and come to the children’s defense. MCS is going to need the help of everyone and stop balms everyone! 360 words

Unordinary Monday

I had the biggest problem yesterday. I woke up early around 5am to go to the gym to start back on my dail workouts. Well it didnt go according to how I planned. I tried to gather my clothes for the gym but I couldnt find them. So I found some other one and that took up much of my time. When i went to the gym, I went to the wrong location. the loctaion i went to had been moved and it was on the other side of Memphis. So I burned alot of gas. Then, i finally go to my destination and it took me a long time to get there. When i got out the car, I grabbed my gym membership from the side of the door. Lock the car and prepared to leave. There's one more thing! I LOCKED MY KEYS IN MY CAR. I was so traumatized because I didnt get to exercise. It was so cold and I had no jacket. So I went in for help, and no one could help me. Luckily, my phone was charged. So, I called everyone and non could help. So I walked to Kroger to get a hanger, which I got from the meat department that smelt like fish. When i got back, I tried to unlock my car. Then the security comes trying to save the day and thens think im trying to break into my car and doesnt even offer assistance. It was so crazy. So i ended up calling POP A LOCK, which they tried to charge me 40 dollars and I declined about 4 times until the guy came and then he charges me half. I mean it was crazy because of all the times I need someone to help me then there way no one around. They are usually blowing up my phone but yesterday wasnt so goodat all!

C.R.U.S.H.

I need help on this one. My sister called me and told me she has a problem. She has a crush on this boy that works with her. I laughed because I dont have crucshes anymore. I told her to tell him and she is afraid. Now, when i was younger and still today, If I have a crush or like someone, then i would tell them. I am a open person when it comes to something like that. if someone likes me, then i would like for them to come and tell me. it wouldnt be a problem. So I think this guy might be the same. So what should she do? If I was in that case then I would address the person because now, we are grown and I don't know what to tell ehr on that case. She is only 16 years old. And my sister is a dorable. So why should she be afraid to tell this guy, Im sure he wouldnt mind. Maybe that's the grown side of me saying that I would tell someone about how I feel. I am too grown. (smiles) to hide anything from anyone. So should I tell her to tell him, or what should she do?

BE You! FAT Vs. thin

I haven’t tried all those products out there. I am tried and constantly consider on losing the weight in ’08 alone. I am here to tell people that by dieting and exercise, you will accomplish your goal to be thinner or healthier. I try to be fit and go and exercise but you have to have the time to do it. I don’t always have the time. I am always at school or at work. But if you have the time then you can go exercise. Weight isn’t such a big issue but first, can I say that we have to have confidence before you try to lose weight. Losing weight doesn’t build confidence. No one can predict how they will look. Confidence comes within. Thinking that someone is much skinnier than you and you think they are prettier than you? Well, they are not. The ones who may look good on the outside to you are much worse on the inside. A nice is a tone body, not bones or ribs cage bulging out. Everyone should hold that confidence. That’s what makes you strong. By doing your work and doing all them the things you do , that gives you the strength to have a courageous mind to do all those things so you have the confidence to be comfortable and be YOU! 224 words

Why did MOM come and visit?

Why did MOM have to visit? Why do MOMS try to treat their sons so childish? My mom is at my house trying to take over everything. I move in by myself to be alone. Well in the news, everyone knows about the tornadoes and the recent chain of events that took place. Well my mom is out of power and she has to stay with me because my two sister stay with her. I went to go and pick her up last night and she blew my mind. My mom came over complaining about why I have paper on the counters and why my bed wasn’t made. I didn’t understand. It was laughter. She is trying to treat me like I am 3. She comes in and wants to start cooking dinner. This a bachelor bad, I don’t cook. There is nothing to eat. If I cook, it would be Sunday dinner and she is always invited. I have the biggest problem because I work 8 hours of the day and I go to school 6 hours of the day. I have school work and I have work from work to do. My mom comes over and starts to complain. What is up with that? I don’t understand. I can’t tell her to go home. She comes over and wants to sleep in the same bed as me. Oh No! My mom slept in my bed and I slept on the couch. I am too old to be sleeping with mom. She really expected me to sleep in the same bed with her. And the bad part, she came in and woke me up like she always did for school. I have an alarm clock. She woke me up 1 hour before I usually wake up. She turned out lights before I went to sleep. Oh no! That is the child vision of me. Not the grown, out on his own thing! 323 words

The Tornadoes of Tuesday

The world is off track. It is not in order. That’s what many of you would say. I agree. The tornadoes rip through the Memphis area and tore down much of everything in some streets of Hickory Hill. Even the legendary Hickory Ridge Mall was affected in the storm. The weather left people out of school and left people without power. They expect the power outage to be up to 3 weeks. I was affected in the storm, even though the storms didn’t hit where I reside at in Germantown but my parents stay in short walking distance to the mall. The area looks bad and deserted. Hickory Hill had already had a problem with its image and Hickory Hill that was the wake up call. Memphis wasn’t affected in the storms. Many other cities and states were affected such as Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Mississippi. There were 33 known deaths thus far. The tornadoes are just a far beginning to the chain of storms. Many other states are receiving excessive snow and water causing some areas to be flooded and some area to be snow- in. The chain of storms seems to look like the movie, “The Day After Tomorrow”. It’s strange but the actualization was much softer than the movie. I watched that movie to take the necessary precautions because the movies signifies and shows us how America will be damage but it own people. I would go into detail but there is no need. The tornadoes affected my work and my job. I had to take time that day to hide with my service recipients to make sure they were safe and unharmed. I cant really explain what is going on in Memphis and America and that God’s doings and America should consider that as a wake up call! 302 words

Voting

I feel that voting is a way that you can express yourself. People don’t really understand you until you actually make your voice be heard. When we vote, we meet a lot of different people such as anxious voters. We shouldn’t just go in to vote but we need to be aware of who we are voting for. We have plenty of candidates to choose from. We should make wise decisions and make sure we choose the person who is truthful and dedicated to our community. We should be involved since we are making the decision or think that we are making the decisions. Many of us don’t vote because we feel that if we are heard that we are silent and unheard. I am a voter and I love my community. Voting is very critical to me because it shows that I take an opportunity that wasn’t given to me once before and taking advantage of it. I wasn’t given the opportunity in the past to vote so regardless of what race you are, you should be aware and vote. I will vote for ones who will better our community and the future of tomorrow.

My Awarness Againist AiDs

I love to share my awranesss anout HIV and Aids. I wrote this award winning paper about AIDS/HIV. Read it and tell emwhat you all think

Throughout the years, the prevalence of the HIV/AIDS virus has increased drastically, but the community that has been affected tremendously has been the African Americans community. Individuals are being infected each day and as an African American community, w need to promote ways to change this epidemic but we are neglecting this situation as if it were not occurring. Teens are being infected with this disease due to peer pressure and self-esteem issues. While teens are being infected so are their parents, family, and friends. African American women are being affected because of peer pressure as well but it seems the use of drugs and needles, which has increased their likelihood of becoming infected. The men within our African American community have becoming the target for infections. This is due to funding for prevention within the jail system has decreased as well as homosexuals men (down low men) decline to admit to their heterosexual partners that they are sleeping with partners of the same sex. Men, women and children are dying daily due to as a whole we are not accepting the fact that unprotected sex is causing more harm than we realize. Our leaders, political officials and others who influence the community could prevent this situation from escalating and if they realized that at this rate, the plan for decreasing the infection rate within the community would change. HIV/AIDS impacts the community each day and because we are neglecting, it will never end. Teenagers are our future and everyday another one of our future presidents, lawyers, doctors, or teachers are dying because of infections of HIV/AIDS virus. Therefore, we should try to make a change to avoid this situation. Peer- pressure has become one of the major assets that amplify infections. Teens do what they see or believe that others do. As a teenager, I thought that being popular or having various quantities of friends is what teens want to have. Some of them will do anything to get that. In 2004, 4,883 young people received a diagnosis of HIV infections.

African American women are dying from the virus everyday because of the fact that they are taking this situation lightly. By making this a nonchalant issue, more women are becoming infected. A majority of African American women ignore this epidemic because no one believes that it is as close to home as we realize. Women are pressured everyday by men to have unprotected sex and by choosing to have unprotected sex they are increasing their risk for infection. People have to make their own decisions and based upon your decisions you are saving your life as well as others. Women are easily manipulated in which men take advantage of that. Everyday their will be another victim that will become infected but different ways and it’s because we believe that this as the “gay White men’s disease”. Everyone believes that it won’t happen to him or her and that’s why we’re neglecting it. Precious Jackson was a woman who told he story about how she caught the disease from he boyfriend. “ He told me that he didn’t like condoms, and he wasn’t gong to wear them and not to ask. So I didn’t.” Due to aggressiveness towards the situation, she didn’t speak out. She ended up catching the disease. She is proof of how ignoring the situation can affect lives. Her life will never be the same and it’s because of he being infected by a man ho she trusted. He did not know that he had the disease and it is because he did not get testes until he went to prison. Many African American women tend to take a man’s word for things and do what they feel is expected of them to do because they are in a relationship with that person which may lead up to becoming infected with the virus. Many individuals’, not just women, tend to use their anger that they have towards other individuals who gave them the disease towards others.

By taking their aggression out on others, they end up passing the disease on because of unprotected sex. Robbie Thompson was a rape victim in which that’s how she caught the disease. She resented men for that so “ she didn’t care that she was passing along the disease, sometimes to unsuspected john who offered to pay her double if they didn’t wear a condom”. She did not care that she was depriving others from fulfilling the rest of their life by passing the disease on to them and because testing is irrelevant to so many within the community, others would’ve been infected also. African American women are not recognizing the harm that they are doing to themselves and others if they do not change their sexual habits. Black women in 2002 accounted for 67 percent of the country’s AIDS cases among women. They have low self-esteem and don’t know how to say “no” to a man because they ant to be loved. Women also tend not to deal with individuals that they have contracted the virus from. They believe that no one would love or accept them because they have the disease. Women fail to realize how there are so many things that can be done to prevent this situation from occurring but they don’t because of people excluding this situation as if it isn’t a high priority that we need t focus on within the community.
Our men have been the largest targets for being infected. Our prison system has lacked funding for the testing and prevention of the HIV/AIDS VIRUS. Because of this, many individuals leave jail with the disease and passing it along to their partners. Once again, the only way we can prevent anyone from passing the virus is to wear condoms. AIDS is so common in the gay community especially in the African American men. Many prisons are trying to reach the point to separate homosexuals from other men to prevent causing of AIDS. They have also thought of preparing or handing out condoms to prison attendants. Gay Women don’t usually catch the virus because they don’t usually have intercourse. They can only really catch it fro touching such as fingers. Men are really affected by the virus but studies show that more and more women are affected daily.

In conclusion, AIDS/HIV virus has really affected the United States and many countries across the globe. We can only protect ourselves, have a strong trust and do that we believe as right. Protect your virginity and keep it safe.

A Little Bit About me and College

College? What career is at the end of the road for me? I have taken so many courses but I am destined to find the career for me. In the beginning, I didn’t know what I wanted to be in life. I had no way of finding out. I didn’t just want a job, I wanted a career. I remember to that day, I wanted to be a Medical Assistant. I looked into it but I picked it because it sounded fancy. I always wanted to do something in the medical field. It was always interesting to become something no one in my family achieve. It’s good to have people in the family with different professions so we all can benefit one another. So, I decided to take some classes for it. My Health Class actually gave me a wider look and a better approach to my career. From that second on, I knew I wanted to go to school to become a RN and study Nursing. In health, I learned so many new things about the body from fitness to diseases. I then started to research and read ahead up on our classroom book. In the health book, it asked “Would you plan to pursue a career in the medical field?” I really amazed and shocked me because I had just decided my carreer. I then knew I had to decide what college would offer a good course for me to explore my dreams. Even though the University of Memphis is right down the street, I saw the procedures and obstacles that they do in the school that I liked. It was just what I was looking for. My health teacher told me to make some course decisions when I got out of his class. He told me to pick courses that would benefit me in the future. Even though I didn’t pick many health classes. I chose to take 3 Spanish courses to help the Spanish speaking people. I took different sciences to learn more about the human body.

NAACP

Through the years, NAACP has been one of the most influential black organizations to exist. Many people do not really know the meaning of the NAACP. NAACP is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It means we have the power to advance, progress or move up. Now in today’s world, we really need the NAACP because they have been leaders for years in developing our young Americans wonderful dreams for tomorrow. We have come across many black organizations and the NAACP has been one organization that has stayed focused and has not relinquished what they believe in. Now as Black Americans, we are targeted because we are using the path that our former generations has laid our for us, and we are making wonderful careers and lives.

My friends and I have fought for what we believe in. Without the NAACP and other black organizations, we wouldn’t have the independence or opportunity to do many things that we are allowed to do today. The good thing that we now discuss is that the NAACP is recognized as a whole and a not individual. Many of us now, try to succeed alone but we could do a whole lot more as a whole. It seems as if the new generation is divided. We really need the NAACP because it gives us the opportunity to show we have power and are determined not to give up.

I don’t think we would have a lot of things we have now or be able to go places we can go to now if it wasn’t for the NAACP. Today, we can only remember what happened in the past and I am glad to say the past is still alive. Without the NAACP, we wouldn’t have a unity or a good family foundation. The organization doesn’t only affect black people but other races to display what we went through and how far we have come. The NAACP is a foundation that not only inspires themselves but one that other organizations look up to. I believe without the NAACP, there would be more black on black crime. We wouldn’t have people to look up to.

NAACP has acknowledged their ancestors by keeping our name in the light. We’re not saying we just want the limelight, we are acknowledging what we have done and getting credit for what we have done.

Is Memphis a Smart City?

Memphis isn’t such a smart city. The council and government are trying to find a vendor to rent out the Pyramid. Memphis has been given good options and they have been given bad ones. Bass Pro Shop has offered to take that spot and turn it into a much larger retail store of theres They are not behind there decision. There are better ideas that fit the profile. Bass Pro is no kind of attraction to the world. Memphis should build for America and not just for them meaning the 12 people who decide. When he tour Memphis, and people come to Memphis, they see the Pyramid as a place of luxury and expense. Memphis was offered full paid construction and to turn the Pyramid into an amusement Park. The amusement park is something that would expense and add enjoyment to our community. Honestly, I rarely know anyone who shops that Bass pro. It’s a retail store and they can find any reason to close down. Memphis should try to use their smarts and give people a chance. I hope that the Memphis official will pick the correct one for US. We are the ones who funded the Pyramid in the beginning. In fact they should let the people of Memphis vote. I would be glad to go down into the polls and vote for our city. The Memphis Pyramid is a legend and we should pick something to benefit the community and people of Memphis. 246 words

Bringing Back Whitehaven

Bring back Whitehaven is one my favorites. I go through that neighborhood a lot and it needs improving. I feel that a lot of people have pick certain areas just like Brooks because have sexual oriented business. Many people would not care if theta wasn’t there. They can’t say that there are school so they just pick the Brooks area. So many areas besides Brooks are in need of improving. The problem with the city is that they wait for a community to have problems and go down the drain, that they want to come over and start to fix things. Such as Hickory Hill, the neighborhood was a quiet community before everyone moved along and then the community got bad. The police had suspected that the community would have gotten bad when many clubs moved into the area. Memphis is built for the people to enjoy and to tour. By closing everything and opening up business for ones who just fund blank places, Memphis will be all empty land. The Brooks area needs it as well as the Presley area but when you talk about the city, it is a whole and not just building areas that certain people want to redevelop. Memphis should work as team and ask the city what they would like to see improved. 219 words

Ciara and Her Evolution

Ciara’s “Goodies” album is a multi platinum album that has soared at the top of the charts with multiple hits. Ciara gave everyone woman reason for living with her female empowered music. She continues into her second album Ciara: The Evolution where she becomes more of a woman and shows who she aspires to be as an ordinary girl. She is one of the top female artists to name when it comes to good music and entertainment. She is compared to the biggest artists such as Janet Jackson and Aaliyah. Her similar style artist Aaliyah created a great vibe and entertainment to the eye. Her music may be female empowered and style may be similar but she is different. Ciara gives me motivation to become a better person. I feel that her music is so powerful and she stands for something. She is one of those artists that I can never get tired of. She really moves my spirit. She has so many comparisons but I think as a much newer artist, she stands out the most. Now, I have other such as Rihanna and Beyonce but I am a dancer and Ciara bring her music into her beats and sounds. She is like other. It is indescribable but I love Ciara with all my heart. There is no REPLACING. I can tell a person so much about her. I desire to meet her one day and she doesn’t even know it yet. 243 words

Tied Between the Two!

In life, I can only become two things. My heart is going back and forth and I don’t know which one to choose. It is so hard for me. I have the biggest problem. I have the aspiration to become this well-known entertainer and supermodel. I have the feeling inside of that I can be that person and people can look up to me. I also want to be this extraordinary nurse and do things people have not done before. I want to be different. I have that difference but I just want people to see. So many days in my life, I have faced this problem. I really want to be that model because I have a hidden agenda and I know that these will not only better other people but myself as a whole. I have dreams and ambitions but I just know that I can combine those two. I know a lot of people say that you can guarantee knowledge but modeling is not such of beauties to me. I like the job or career that they have. I love been on camera and taking photos. No problem for me. I love Tyra Banks. She has built a strong foundation of a great and powerful woman. I aspire to be a man like she has become that woman. I want for people to look up to me just like they do her. I am so tired between the two. But I know the lord above has a pathway for me and I know it’s nothing but SUCCESS. 260 words

mY PlAce, My SpaCe

I love living in my new place. I am on my own. I really like staying alone. The bills are not so hard. I can do it. I recently turned 19 and I had a place when I was 18. It’s strange but I’m making things happen. All my life I was told to be independent. So when I get something, I was supposed to make the best of it. I really do. I don’t really have much time at my place because I’m at school and ant work so I really get enjoy myself when I’m off on the weekends. It’s a place that I can relax and not have to worry about any problems at all. It’s a nice bachelor pad because when before I moved along, I was staying in a home with up to 12 people. I didn’t make it. It was hard for me and I didn’t have any privacy. I felt so open and I am a very open at times but I really like to be left alone. I feel that I can get so much accomplished. So I moved out to have that peace and quiet. I love the location of my home because I can do so much and still make it on time. I don’t have to rush for anything. It my own little cozy place to rest and look up at the ceiling and know that IT’S MINES! 231 words

COWORKERS

I have been having the biggest problems at work. I am the youngest person who works at my job. I work with women of ages 30 to 50. Sounds strange! Huh? Yeah, I actually like it. I love going to work. I work with mental retardation clients and being around them doesn’t give me any discomfort. It is just my coworkers that I don’t get along with. It’s this one lady that I always have a problem with. Now, as the youngest person at my job, I try to respect everyone and elders but she just work my nerves. She really makes me not want to be at work. When I am at work, she is the only person there with me. She does everything on the job. She smokes illegal things, just sitting down, and always eating. We always argue because I am there for those clients and she just considers it to be a 8- hour job. I wrote this message because I honestly respect everyone but she tries to boss me around tell me what to do all the time, like she is the boss. The bad thing about it is that she gets paid the same amount as me. She honestly has no life. She is always in someone’s business. The first day that I met her, she was talking bad about everyone at the job and I knew that she was bound to talk about me. She acts like she is 12. She is always causing a fight with me and finally I got her fired. 261 words.
